New CIty Ordinances that Need to be passed

If you know me, you know I love my animals, especially dogs. They don't have a voice, so we are their voice. These are WONDERFUL Ordinances that will really help the overpopulation of dogs. The Commercial Appeal did an article on this today.  They are actually separated into two ordinances. One is to ban the roadside sale of animals. So you wont see people set up on the side of the road or in front of WalMart with puppies in a cage and begging you to buy them. When in actuality they are trying to make a quick buck and don't care about these puppies. And most of the time these puppies end up sick and don't live our their lives. The other is a Spay-Neuter Ordinance which requires dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered by the time they are six months old. The best part of this of this ordinance requires breeders to get a $1000 license from the city. This helps the good legitimate breeders to separate themselves from the roadside crazies and the puppy mills. There really is no reason to not have your dog fixed unless you are a legitimate breeder. Cancer rates go down for males as well as aggression in both males and females. Things happen and your dog and accidentally gets out, then there are 8-10 puppies to worry about, the problem is, most people don't worry about the puppies and throw them out to fin for themselves. I see it everyday and every time I volunteer at the Humane Society. The Humane Society only has room for the hurt, sick and injured and cannot take in every stray off the street. Every stray on the street does not deserve to die in a shelter. Please contact your City Council Members and ask them to please pass these ordinances.
